AECFV Turns 25!

25 years ago the Fraser Valley did not look as it does today. It wasn’t as densely populated nor was it as busy! AECFV has changed and grown along with the needs of our surrounding communities. In 1996 we were a small veterinary practiced that was primarily only open when all others were closed. For many years we have been fully staffed 24 hours a day, every day of the year as support to our referring veterinary hospitals and all the pets in our communities. It has been a long time since we turned off our lights!

Dr. Nadine Koreman graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 1992. She was an emergency veterinarian at Vancouver Animal Emergency Clinic following her internship in Auburn, Alabama. At the time, VAEC was the only fully staffed facility available for after-hours veterinary care in the Lower Mainland. Nadine and her husband, Rob, had grown up in Langley and returned to be close to family once her schooling was complete. Dr. Koreman, along with many of the local veterinarians, saw a need for after-hours emergency care for the pets in the Fraser Valley.

Nadine and Rob Koreman opened the Animal Emergency Clinic of the Fraser Valley on December 6, 1996. A small 1800sq ft hospital across from the Superstore, we were only open overnight and on weekends and holidays. It took time for the community to realize we were here and it took time to earn the trust of the community veterinarians. That first night our phones remained silent.

By 2006, just as the surrounding communities had grown, so had we. We moved into a new 5000sq ft hospital a few blocks away. Fast forward to today and we easily fill our 8,000sq ft space and have over 100 staff members.

We celebrated our Birthday by hiring a food truck to serve up delicious savory and sweet crepes to all our staff. It would not be a birthday without cake, which we had plenty of!

Thank you to everyone who has sent us birthday wishes! We thank our veterinarian community for working together with us over the years so we could provide the care your clients deserve, and we thank our clients for trusting us to care for your pets. We look forward to continue growing alongside the amazing communities we serve!

If your pet ever needs us, our lights are on and a full medical team is here for them. After 25 years, we know emergencies!
